The Pencil Box Studio

The Pencil Box Studio brings out Kat’s inner child. From caricatures to creatures, Kat adds personality to every character when she picks up a pencil.

Kat has developed the branding and created characters for the City of Gold Coast’s Learn to Swim Program, these characters are featured across merchandise such as swim caps, advertising and more. Her murals are also featured in a Commonwealth Games Venue, Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Kat was recently selected to join 100 Australian Artists in creating a 100 page colouring book ‘This is Australia’ raising $10,000 for the Hanson Bay Wildlife and Koala Sanctuary in SA (Kangaroo Island), coordinated by Kasey Rainbow.

One advantage Kat has when creating characters is her first hand experience working with children and schools. She understands the teachers needs as well as the students and can tailor drawings to each learning level.
Kat’s added spunk to characters are a hit with the kids and helps teachers keep students engaged whilst still achieving the desired outcomes.

Kat is currently a design student with SAE Creative Media Institute and has received High Distinctions for her work in digital illustration and her portfolio work is now used as an example for all future students. She also claimed first prize is the digital illustration drawing competition.

Kat is currently working on a series of children’s books with good moral teachings.
The kids will fall in love with the cheeky fun loving character’s and the parents will relate to all the humorous puns along the way.

‘My goal is to create stories that can be enjoyed in schools and most importantly the home. I aim to keep the whole family engaged so the books become a household favourite.’

[*Background story: Kat was once a jovial bingo caller on a tropical island resort and created her own bingo lingo to keep her audiences guessing …and laughing. Kat’s ability to rhyme in rhythm has become quite useful not only in writing children’s books but creating introductions for tour operators, sporting events and more.]
